James Ramsey Mitchell

Union Grove Mr. James Ramsey Mitchell, 79, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mr. Mitchell was born October 10, 1932 in Iredell County to Addie Mitchell Crawford. He was a graduate of Union Grove High School and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. On December 19, 1953, he married Ulala Weatherman. Mr. Mitchell was a veteran of the US Air Force and retired as a Senior Master Sgt. after 21 years of service. He received several awards, including: Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Readiness Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon, Air Force NCO PME Graduate, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon. Mr. Mitchell enjoyed gardening and watching sports. He also retired as a road driver for AAA Cooper. He was a great husband, father, and grandfather who always had a loving heart. Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ulala Weatherman Mitchell of Union Grove; a son, Jimmie (Ginger) Mitchell of Love Valley; a daughter, Vickie (Kurt) Lorenz of Ireland; three grandchildren, Codi and Kasi Mitchell and Morgan Lorenz; and a step-father, Al Crawford of Garden City, MI. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 2:00PM at Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Holbrook and Rev. Dwight Dowell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.
