Etta Melton Steelman

Steelman Yadkinville- Mrs. Etta Mae Melton Steelman, 91, of Old Highway 421 passed away Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Wake Forest Baptist Health. She was born July 23, 1920 in Yadkin County to the late Emmett and Ora Dinkins Melton. Mrs. Steelman was a graduate of Yadkinville High School Class of 1940, and a graduate of Draughns Business College in Winston-Salem. Etta loved the Lord above all else and would say many times a day, "I Love Jesus", and enjoyed spending times tending to her flowers. She taught Sunday School and Bible School at Island Ford Baptist Church and Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was raised at Pilot View Friends Meeting and a member at Branon Friends Meeting. She worked several years at Chatham Manufacturing until the birth of her daughter, and she continued to work with various jobs including, Macke Vending, Yadkinville Elementary School as a Library Assistant, and finally at Yadkin County Council on Aging, where she did telephone reassurance and made many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Robert Paul Newman and Allen William Steelman; sister, Annie Pearl Adams; son-in-law, Robert D. Brown; step-son, Grey Newman and special friends, Opal Winters and Jessie Ruth Branon. Those left behind to cherish her memories are her daughter, Aileen Steelman Brown; grandchildren, Danielle Brown, Samuel (Michelle) Brown; great-granddaughter, Katelyn Haley Brown; sister, Ruth M. Frye; step-children, Pat (Ray) Jordan, Harry (Kathryn) Steelman, Ruth Newman; several step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; several nieces, cousins, special friends, Doris Brown, Avis Steelman; special niece, Nellie "Sugarbump" Blevins and her beloved caregiver of 8 years, Lynette Talley. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Her funeral service will be 11:00 AM Monday, June 18, 2012 in the Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. Hewey Parrish, her granddaughter, Danielle Brown, and Rev. Joe Reece. Burial will follow in the Branon Friends Church Cemetery. The family would like to thank, Yadkin Senior Services, Jenny Gentry, Terry Hess M.D., and Yadkin Nursing Center for their love and care.
