Eugene Brooks

Eugene "Gene" Brooks of Ronda North Carolina, after battling for many months, passed on peacefully at his home with his wife and three children by his side, to a better place just one day short of his 86th birthday. Born the 19th of July in 1926 in Wilkes County, North Carolina, He was the third child of the late John Clarence Brooks and his late mother Dorthy Money Brooks. After growing up in Wilkes County, Gene remained a proud Naval Veteran of the Pacific where he served his country during World War II. After the military, Gene worked in Greensboro, NC before returning to his native Wilkes County. Mainly a farmer at heart, Gene had many mechanical talents, including operating heavy equipment and his Lawn Mower Shop, that he enjoyed up until the last several months. Surviving are his loving wife of 64 years, Pearl Hemric Brooks of the home, three children, John W. Brooks (and Sue) of Ronda, NC, Jimmy E. Brooks of Harmony, NC and Kim B. Carter (and Mark) of Roanoke, VA. Gene was also proud of he and Pearl's six grand children and nine great-grand children. Gene is also survived by one sister, Ruth Greene of Shallotte, NC and one brother, Paul Brooks of Ronda, NC. Over his lifetime Gene also had the sadness of losing several siblings. One sister Ruby Osborne and five brothers; Claude, John, Glenn, Junior and Dwight. Gene will be laid to a peaceful rest at Dennyville Baptist Church in Ronda, NC where he was a long time member on Saturday the 21st. The family will receive friends at the church starting at 1:00pm and the service will follow at 2:00pm in the church with Rev. Wayne Byrd and Rev. Kenneth Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Full Military Honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice PO Box 1267, Yadkinville, NC 27055. The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff of Mountain Valley Hospice including, Melinda and Susan, for all the loving care and support given to Mr. Brooks and his family.
