Hazel Phillips Matthews

Yadkinville Mrs. Hazel Phillips Matthews, "Miss Hazel", passed away Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Woltz Hospice Home after a courageous fight with cancer. Mrs. Matthews was born February 23, 1942 to Venus and Ella Hobson Phillips. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Bonnie Phillips; and a special friend, Ruth Spillman. She is survived by her loving husband and love of her life, James Matthews; children, Robin and Robbie Hall; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends and neighbors, and her aunt Stacy Hobson. A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, September 9, 2012 at 3:00PM at Forbush Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Souther and Rev. Lenuel Lusk officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mtn. Valley Hospice, 1512 Shacktown Rd. Yadkinville, NC 27055 or to Forbush Baptist Church General Fund, 3917 Old US 421 Hwy E Yadkinville, NC 27055. The family wishes to thank the staff of Mtn. Valley Hospice and Woltz Hospice Home, especially Cindy Bullin and Peggy Shore, for their devoted care for Hazel.
