Shirley Meade Oliver

February 11, 1944 — September 9, 2012

Yadkinville Shirley Ann Meade Oliver, 68, celebrated her homecoming on September 9, 2012. She was born February 11, 1944 in North Wilkesboro, NC to Matthew and Flavel Meade and was re-born into the family of God, 40 years ago, August 20, 1972. She was a faithful member of Peacehaven Baptist Church in Yadkinville, NC where she was instrumental in the establishment of the "I Can Cope" support group, created for those fighting long term illness, caregivers and those who have lost loved ones; but she was always quick to point out that it was God's group, not hers. Mamaw was a "shining light" to all who met her and her greatest desire in life was that her family and friends know Jesus. She touched many lives in her quiet way, even as she struggled with pain and illness, and one never failed to come away blessed by her. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bobby Oliver; an older brother, Roger (Grace) Meade, and her parents. She is survived by her children; Amanda (Tim) Lamm, David (Re Gregory) Oliver, and Julie (Josh) Palmer all of Hamptonville, NC; nine grandchildren, Erika (Mark) Triplett, Britney Meurer, Olivia (Donal) Carter, Austin Meurer, Jacob and Isaac Lamm, Dalton Oliver, and Briana and Maddie Rae Palmer; as well as four great-grandchildren; Tristan, Andrew, Madison, and Rylee. Also surviving are two brothers; Wally (Lee) Meade and Richard Meade, both of North Wilkesboro, NC as well as many nieces, nephews, brother and sister in laws and cousins. A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 11:00am at Peacehaven Baptist Church with the Revs. Jon Bowman and George Evans leading in worship. She will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at Gentry Family Funeral Service Tuesday evening, September 11, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00PM. Our family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our special friends at Mountain Valley Hospice for all they have done for our precious mother and our family as you traveled this path with us yet againMargie, Kathy, Sarah, and Kelly, as well as others who came to our aid when neededyou are blessed with a special calling and we have been touched deeply by your love and kindness. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, P.O. Box 1267, Yadkinville, NC 27020 or to the annual Love Out Loud 5K event in care of Peacehaven Baptist Church, 2200 Booger Swamp Road, Yadkinville, NC 27055. Our mom lived a life that exemplified the love of Christ and now that the pain and cancer have been defeated, we rejoice in the fact that she is now at the feet of Jesus, and as she would say - "This is not good-bye, just see you later!" Psalm 116:15 - "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints."
