John Dellos Melton, Jr.

John Dellos (J.D.) Melton, Jr., 89, passed away Sunday September 16, 2012 at his residence. Mr. Melton was born May 20, 1923 in Yadkin County to the late John Dellos Melton, Sr. & Jettie Plowman Melton. He was a WWII Veteran, served with the US Marines 4th Marine Division, 23rd infantry in the South pacific. Mr. Melton was a member of Turners Creek Baptist Church where he served in many positions over the years. He served as Deacon, Junior Church Worker, Bell Ringer, and helped with the church remodeling, and went on several mission trips to help build churches and help missionaries spread the gospel. He worked as a home building contractor for many years and also did some farming. He had many friends and enjoyed doing things for people, especially giving away vegetables out of his garden. He was an active member of the VFW Post 10346 and the American Legion Post 505 for several years. He enjoyed working with them to help veterans and others in the community. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Clettie Miller Melton; a sister Pearl Melton Reavis; six brothers Wilson, Herman, Andrew, Cecil, Homer, Furman Melton. Surviving are two daughters Brenda (Danny) Callaway, Lesa (Rodney) Fulk; three grandsons Kevin Callaway, Cody Fulk, and Jesse Fulk; two great-grandchildren Cheyenne Callaway and Daniel Callaway; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Pm Tuesday September 18, 2012 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral will be conducted at 1:30 PM Wednesday September 19, 2012 at Turners Creek Baptist Church by Rev. Scott Welch and Rev. Conard Hatfield. He will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery with full Military Honors by the VFW Post 10346. A special thank you to Mountain Valley Hospice for their assistance in the last few months. We also thank each one who visited and brought anything during Daddy's time of illness.
