Donald Booth Hudspeth

Hudspeth Yadkinville- Mr. Donald B. Hudspeth, 91, an old soldier went home to be with his Commander and Chief, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Saturday October 6, 2012. Born May 8, 1921, to James Wilson Hudspeth and Fannie Weatherman Hudspeth, he was one of 9 children. He was loved by many for his quick wit and dry sense of humor. Donald was a U.S. Army Air Corps, World War II veteran and Prisoner of War (P.O.W.) His plane was shot down over Poland and was M.I.A. for 6 months before being liberated. He loved his country and served it with honor. In October, 2009, he participated in the first Piedmont Triad Flight of Honor visiting the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. He is a member of the Yadkin VFW Post 10346, the Yadkinville Lions Club, and was retired with several years of service from Western Electric. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Ruby Reece Hudspeth; an infant daughter, Drucilla; 4 brothers, Efrid, Urskin, Lofton, and Ed; and 4 sisters, Dorothy Brannon, Ruth Hudspeth, Opal Groce, and Lucille Royal. Surviving are his one son, Ronnie (Monna) Hudspeth of Boonville; one daughter, Adrian (Ira) Brown of High Point; 4 granddaughters, Candy (the late Eric) Seagraves, Nashville, TN; Joyell (Mickey) Leonard of Cana, Va., Kimberly (Osmaro) Alvarenga; and Wendi Webster Franks of High Point; 14 great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Art Shew; and a special friend of the family, Pat Seagraves. A Celebration of his life will be held 2:00 Pm Tuesday at Center United Methodist Church, where he was a faithful member as long as his health permitted, by Rev. Bonnie Harris, Rev. Paul Stewart, Rev. Mickey Leonard, and Rev. Jimmy Pulley. He will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Full Military Honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Yadkin Christian Ministries, PO Box 204, Yadkinville, NC 27055.
