Reid Hamptonville- Mr. Harold Edward Reid passed away quietly at home surrounded by his loving family Thursday, October 11, 2012 after a long courageous battle of fighting cancer. He was a veteran of the US Army, was self-employed, and was an avid coon hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his mother Fannie Cleo Ball Reid, his father, Rufus Oscar Reid, his brother, James Allen Reid, and his sister, Mary Bell Reid Wooten. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 28 years, Geneva Benge Reid; a step-daughter, Lisa Baldwin Kelly of the home; two sons, Marty Reid and Darold Reid both of Yadkinville; a daughter, Inga Reid of Roanoke, Va; two granddaughters, Shantae Kelly and Brianna Kelly, both of the home; two sisters, Betty Lane, Yadkinville; Peggy Somers, Hamptonville; special members and friends of the family, Lisa VanHorn of Elkin and Jesse Baldwin of Lake Placid, Fla. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM Sunday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His service will follow the visitation at 3:00 PM Sunday in the Gentry Family Chapel by Chaplain Stewart Rotten, Chaplain Bill Johnson, and Lisa VanHorn. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Rites by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family would like to express a very special and heartfelt thanks to all the loving members of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care Center, and to Woltz Hospice Home of Dobson, NC for all their loving care and devotion, that enabled him to become their longest living hospice patient.
