Kate Bowles

Yadkinville Mrs. Hazel Lee "Kate" Bowles, 96, passed away Friday, November 30, 2012 at her home. Mrs. Bowles was born February 16, 1916 in Yadkin County to Charlie and Sallie Melton Plowman. She was second to the youngest, and the last living of the ten children. Mrs. Bowles was a lifelong member of Turner's Creek Baptist Church. She retired from Courtney Elementary School. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bowles was preceded in death by her son, Hurley Bowles; and nine brothers and sisters. She is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, Henry Wilson Bowles; her daughter, Louise (Robert) Allgood; a granddaughter, Valerie (Ronald) Cockerham; and two grandchildren, Jake and Victoria Steelman. A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, December 2, 2012 at 3:00PM at Turner's Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Welch and Rev. David Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mtn. Valley Hospice or to Turner's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Mtn. Valley Hospice and caregivers, Ann Johnson, Pat Howard, and Colleen Ball for all the love, care, and support shown to them and Mrs. Bowles during this difficult time.
