Rev. James Wilson Finney

Finney Hamptonville- Rev. James Wilson Finney, 79, passed away December 11, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center- University in Charlotte. Rev. Finney was born March 9, 1933 in Yadkin County to the late Coy and Beulah Finney. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Barbara Taylor, and great grandson Caleb Benton. Surviving is his wife Mae Finney of fifty years, his sister Betty (Ray) Shore, his daughter Scarlett Layell, his grandchildren Laura Travis, Jerad Bryant and his fiance' Jennifer Merkwa, and Lynn Morris, his great grandchildren Kaitlyn Travis, Brie Benton, and Blake Benton. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the United States Army, until he was honorably discharged on September 9, 1959. Rev. Finney was a graduate of Duke Divinity School. He was ordained as a minister in 1974. After retiring from the ministry he helped his son-in-law with the family business, Bryant Home Center. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Friday December 14, 2012 at Gentry Family Funeral Service on Little Mountain Road in Jonesville. His funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday in the Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. Bobby Swaim, Rev. Kevin Blevins, Rev. Mike Church, and Rev. Claudia Harrellson. Burial will follow in the Mountain Grove United Methodist Church cemetery with Full Military Honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Mountain Grove United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2616 Buck Shoals road, Hamptonville, NC 27020.
