Mattie Gay Hawks

Mattie Gay Hawks passed away Saturday January 5, 2013 at Yadkin Nursing Center. She was a loving Mother who loved her children and grandchildren dearly. She was born May 26, 1930 in Yadkin County and was the daughter of the late Charles Gurney and Maudie Mozelle Peele. She is survived by her sons Danny Hawks, Jerry (MeLinda) Hawks and Randall (Heidi) Hawks; a sister Josey Chapman; a brother Sherrill (Nellie) Peele; 9 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. In 1943 Gay came to live at the Methodist Children's Home in Winston-Salem. She lived there and was nurtured there until 1949 when she graduated from Reynolds High School. She worked for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company for 13 years. Proceeding her in death where her husband Marvin E, Hawks; a sister Vermell Myers; a brother Ed Peele. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday January 7, 2013 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Her funeral will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday January 8, 2013 at the Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. Billy Seats. Burial will follow at Gospel Way Baptist Church Cemetery.
