Claude ( Dick ) Clingman Seats was born 3/29/1922 in Yadkin County to McClelland and Laura Woodruff Seats.After 30 yrs alone, Dick has rejoined his loving wife Cora Baity Seats of 42 yrs of marriage in God's Loving Arm. Left behind to celebrate the reunion his only son, Hal Phillip Seats, and wife- Janet of Huntsville. Grandson Phillip Seats, and wife Jennifer also of Huntsville. Granddaughter Catherine Seats Eddleman, and husband Mickey, of Hamptonville. Dick also had 4 great-grandchildren: Zachary & Cora Seats, Madison & Kayla Eddleman. He had many special friends that will be missed. Preceded in death was his mother: Laura White Seats Woodruff, and father: McClelland Claude Seats, who died when he was 17 yrs old, also his brother John Seats. Dick graduated from Courtney School in 1937 at 15 yrs old. He joined the United States Army on 11-5-1942. During his time serving our country, he worked as a radar instructor. While he was serving, his mother and brother were also serving in the Military. He received honorable discharge on 12-20-45.After returning from the army, he worked in various repair shops as shop foreman in Winston-Salem. Then in 1960, he opened Huntsville Motor Company beside his home. He repaired cars, tractors, lawnmower and whatever someone needed repaired. He retired in 1984 but continued to do small repairs for customers for several more years. He enjoyed driving his tractor and going to the Battle-branch Café to eat but mostly to socialize with old friends and new friends. His photos still adorn the wall as you enter the restaurant. He was fondly known as the Mayor of Huntsville by all who knew him. One of his other passions, was attending the weekly auction- Farmington Maul- his cousin William (Bill) Seats started in the early 70's and run until his death. His son, Rev. William (Billy) Seats, and family continues to run the weekly auction. In over 40 yrs., he missed very few sales. Dick was a long time member of Huntsville Baptist Church in downtown Huntsville, NC. During his time as a member- he taught Sunday School Class, served on many committees, and also served as Church Secretary and Deacon. Visitation will be Tuesday night from 6-8 PM. Graveside services will be held at Huntsville Baptist Church on Wednesday at 2 PM, with Reverend William Seats officiating. Full Military Honors by the VFW Post 10346.
