Elva Jester Parker

July 23, 1923 — March 7, 2013

Parker Yadkinville - Elva (Granny) Jester Parker, age 89, passed away Thursday morning, March 7, 2013, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Elva was born in Wilkes County, July 23, 1923, to the late Dolphus Jones Jester and Cynthia Ann Jester. Mrs. Parker was employed on the farm raising tobacco and was primary operator of the family chicken house operation. Mrs. Parker was a wonderful mother and homemaker, best remembered for her outstanding cooking ability. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Ernest Parker; son, Donald Lee Parker; son-in-law, C.D. Miller; grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Parker; sisters, Dorothy Smitherman and Bonnie Staley; brothers, Warren Jester and Walter Jester. Survivors include her son, Ray (Linda) Parker of Boonville; daughters, Jo Ann Miller of Boonville and Sandra (Roger) Adams of Yadkinville; three grandchildren, Dee (Brian) Shore of Boonville, Gina McGee of Boonville, Dr. Anna (Jeromy) Miller-Fitzwater of Lewisville; great grandson, Ian Fitzwater of Lewisville; sister, Frances (Jack) Reece of East Bend; cherished nieces and nephews who enjoyed many meals at "Aunt Elvie's" during her lifetime; and granddaughter of the heart, Alsina Mei of Pfafftown. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2013 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Her funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Gentry Family Chapel by the Rev. Gregory Gordon. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church on Nebo Road, Boonville, NC. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030; Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017; or to a charity of the donor's choice. Special thanks to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice, staff at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, Dr. Jerry Ziglar and staff at Yadkin Valley Community Physicians, Grace (Coy) Miller, and other friends and relatives that called and visited.
