Brown Hamptonville - Roby Cornelius Brown, 85, he was born December 14, 1927, the year the Babe hit 60 and Lindbergh flew the Atlantic. Devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, left us to be with his Lord and Savior on March 24, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center. Son of Solomon and Novella Shore Brown, Roby was raised by Harrison and Millie Shore Tucker. He was inducted into the US Army in 1950; he served during the Korean Conflict. A Staunch Patriot and American, he never wavered from his morals and the American Spirit. He was married on October 14, 1956 to JoAnn Mathis Brown, they spent 56 ½ years of marriage together. Roby had two children, Derry Brown and Julie Brown Moxley, son-in-law, Robert Moxley; and four grandchildren, Rhett Brown, Hannah Brown, Trevor Moxley and Abby Moxley, whom he thought the very world centered around. Roby Brown was an avid golfer (hitting many incredible shots), outdoorsman, hunter, and avid Red Sox fan. He coached many baseball teams touching the lives of each of the boys that played for him. He was loyal to his church, Mt View Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday school teacher, Deacon, and choir member. He retired from RJ Archer Aluminum. He was a friend to everyone he met and always had a smile and a comment to make you laugh. Roby was a friend to all. John and Ruth Tucker of Clemmons are a special friend, cousin by blood brother by love. He was preceded in death by Solomon and Novella Shore Brown, Harrison and Millie Shore Tucker; five brothers, Orville, Clyde, Garvey, Jack, and Jetter Brown. His funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Mt View Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Tucker and the Rev. Roger Groce. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by the Yadkin VFW Post 10346. He will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville, which is serving the Brown family.
