Harvey Lee Bates, 62, passed away Thursday April 4, 2013 at Woltz Hospice Home. Harvey was born October 15, 1950 to Cleo Bates & Martha Davis Anderson. Mr. Bates retired from R J Reynolds with 30 years of service. He was a charter member of the Yadkin Valley Cruisers; and loved playing bluegrass music with his bluegrass friends. He was preceded in death by his father, and a son Matthew Lee Bates. Surviving are his wife Sandy Benton Bates, his mother Martha Davis Anderson; three daughters Michelle Key, Crystal Williams, both of Yadkinville, Kim (Jason) Deal of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four brothers Gray Bates, Dean (Angie) Anderson, Steve Anderson, Gary (Tina) Anderson; sisters Libby (Jeff) Shepard, Lynn (Matt) Poplin. The family will receive friends from 6-9 PM Saturday April 6, 2013 at Gentry family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday April 7, 2013 at Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. Eddy Driver, Rev. Ralph Casstevens, and Brother Phillip Willard. Burial will follow at Charity Baptist Church Cemetery. The family would like to say a very special thanks to Dr. Patricia Zekan and her staff, as well as the staff of Woltz Hospice Home for all their kindness and concern during this time.
