YADKINVIILLE Mr. Max Allen Parker, 80, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013. Mr. Parker was born August 31, 1932 in Surry County, NC to the late Samuel Dillard Parker and Ola Peele Parker. He served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict. In 2007, Mr. Parker retired from the family-owned business, Parker Tire and Muffler Service, where he worked alongside his father and brothers for 45 years. He loved his family, his church, and his community. He was a member of Courtney Baptist Church where he served as deacon. Mr. Parker was a charter member of the Courtney Ruritan Club. He loved farming, fishing, and four-wheeling. In his younger days, he also enjoyed softball, motorcycles, go-carts, and drag racing his hot rod Ford truck. The Parker home was a frequent hangout for all the neighborhood kids. Max enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and neighbors. He was always willing to lend a helping hand or provide a practical joke or some clever wittism to bring smiles and laughter. Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Charles Lincoln "Dink" Parker and Samuel Dillard "SD" Parker, Jr. and a half-brother, William Edgar "Bill" Parker. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Coleen Cook Parker of the home; three daughters, Sheila Mosteller (Brian), Robin Holt (Greg), and Melissa Bartlett (Daniel) all of Yadkinville; one sister, Fayerine "Faye" Nance; four grandchildren, Cody Mosteller, Kristin (Chris) Parks, Enya (Darik) Schumacher, and Ethan Bartlett; one step-granddaughter, Taylor Holt; two great-grandchildren, Calib Dobbins and Keely Brown; and one step great-grandchild, Joshua Parks; three nieces, and ten nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 6, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Gentry Family Funeral Services. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 7 at Courtney Baptist Church in Yadkinville NC with Rev. John Brown and Rev. Ray Davis officiating. Mr. Parker will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Post 10346.
