Rev. James Jefferson Poindexter

East Bend Rev. James Jefferson Poindexter, 85, passed away Wednesday May 8, 2013 at Yadkin Valley Community Hospital. Mr. Poindexter was born December 11, 1927 in Surry County to Jerry and Maggie Key Poindexter. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of Yadkinville Church of God. Mr. Poindexter served as a pastor for over 40 years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Poindexter was preceded in death by a son, James Michael Poindexter; four sisters, Mary Crider, Ranzie Knight, Irene Pettit, and Margie Poindexter; and four brothers, Roy Poindexter, Wade Poindexter, Clayton Poindexter, and Raymond Poindexter. He is survived by his loving wife, Leavora Whitaker Poindexter; two children, Timothy (Rayleen) Poindexter and Mary Angela Poindexter; four grandchildren, Aaron Michael (Tawnie) Poindexter, Amy Jo Poindexter, Ryan Scott Poindexter, and Tyler Adam Poindexter; two great grandchildren, Kyra Marie Poindexter and Eli Aiden Gorski; and two sisters, Stacy P. Fie and Ola Mae Humphrey. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 11:00AM at Yadkinville Church of God with Rev. Ken Barnett and Rev. Tim Jones officiating with military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Yadkin Nursing Center for all the love, care, and support shown to Mr. Poindexter.
