Karen Carter Matthews

Matthews East Bend- Mrs. Karen, Elizabeth Carter Matthews, 61, of Mill Hill Road passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center Main Campus in Charlotte. She was born September 2, 1951 in Forsyth County to the late Carl and Blanche Davis Carter. Mrs. Matthews worked and traveled with Davis Department Store as their Buyer and Merchandise Manager. She was a faithful member of Forbush Friends Meeting, and was a loving and devoted homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother "Mimi" to her family whom she cherished. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her 3 grandchildren, Carter, Brock, and Sophie Matthews, and by a brother, J.W. Carter. Surviving are her beloved husband, Bobby June "Bud" Matthews, of the home; 2 sons, Brock Matthews and wife, Lisa of Yadkinville, Travis Matthews, Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Luca and Ella Matthews; sister, Vera Campbell of East Bend; special friends, June Hayes, Mary Groce, and Ella McKnight; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM Saturday at Forbush Friends Meeting. Her funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM Saturday in the church with Rev. Michael Thames, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
