Katherine S. Wooten East Bend NC Katherine "Kathy" Wooten, age 61, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2013 at her home and was surrounded by her loving family. Kathy was born and grew up in Elkin NC. She moved to East Bend NC after her marriage to Gary Wooten (deceased since 2012). Gary and Kathy loved living in their close knit community and were active members of their community and their beloved church, Forbush Friends Meeting. Kathy (and Gary) were involved in various ministries of the church. Kathy's last active ministry was the role of elder which she held for several years. Kathy dearly loved her family, her church, and her friends. She loved to make people laugh and always had a hug and a funny story to share with everyone she met. More importantly, she loved seeing people get to know her sweet Jesus. Kathy graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of NC - Greensboro in 1974 and later in life received a Master's Degree in Education from Gardner-Webb University. She spent her entire career of 28 years working within the Mt. Airy City School System. She began her career as a P.E. teacher at Mt Airy High School, then became dropout coordinator for two years, and then worked as assistant principal. She eventually became principal at Jones Elementary School. Later in her career, she was appointed as principal at Tharrington Elementary School and ended her career as Director of Student Services. Kathy loved children and often remarked that God had not enabled her to have her own children but He had blessed her in so many ways by entrusting her with an entire school of children. Kathy is survived by two brothers: J.D. Stanley of Winston Salem and Mike Stanley (Charlotte) of Harrisburg, two sisters: Jeannette Eads (Jerry) of Titusville FL and Betty Barbour (Doug) of Charlotte, and brother-in-law Jack Wright of Raleigh. Kathy was a much loved aunt to a host of nieces and nephews. Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Wooten, her parents, Dewitt and Emmie Stanley, two sisters, Marie Wright and Joyce Snow, and brother-in-law Clinton Snow. Kathy is also survived by her heart-adopted daughter, Kim Collins, who was her best friend and mainstay during her illness. Kathy is also survived by her much loved in-laws, Edgar & Betty Wooten and Ray & Dianne Shore, who have been there for her every step along the way. The family is forever indebted to Kim, Edgar & Betty, and Ray & Dianne for their unending love and support of Kathy. The family also extends its sincere thanks to a community of friends and family who have been there for Kathy to help her during her illness. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville has been entrusted with funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends at Forbush Friends Meeting, East Bend NC, on Wednesday, May 29, 1-3pm. A service to celebrate Kathy's life will immediately follow at 3pm. Kathy's dear friend and former pastor, Andy Lambert, will officiate. Kathy's current pastor, Michael Thames, will also participate in the service. Burial will follow at Forbush Friends Meeting Church cemetery.
