Athan Yadkinville - Billy Vernon Athan, 77, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Wednesday, June 26, 2013. He was born May 12, 1936 in Yadkin County to the late Fred Gray Athan and Dorothy Smith Athan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Burley Athan, Ray Athan. Surviving are his wife, Martha Brinegar Athan; daughters, Cindi (Robin) Dixon, Vernay A. Vittoe; grandchildren, Robin Gray Dixon II, Ryan Dixon, Alexandra Vittoe, Jonah Vittoe; sisters-in-law, Brenda Athan, Marilyn Proffit; brother-in-law, Steve Brinegar; several nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2013 at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville by the Rev. Robin Dixon and the Rev. David Stetler. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Mt Olive United Methodist Church with full military rights by the Yadkin VFW Post 10346.
