- Betty Nance Haire of Yadkinville passed away July 15, 2013 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mrs Haire was born December 20, 1939 in Yadkin County to John W. and Lucy Reavis Nance. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Risdon Odell Haire and a brother, Loyd W. Nance. She is survived by sisters, Patty (Charles) Renegar, Debbie (Larry) Childress and a brother, Larry W. (Edna) Nance. Nieces, Susan (Charles) Soots, Morgan (Jakob) Womack and Savannah Childress; nephews, Bill Nance, Kenneth Nance, Darrell Nance, Jeremy Childress, Wesley (Amy) Childress, Jacob Childress, and a very special fishing buddy and nephew, Danny Haire. Betty lived a life that was the envy of a lot of men and women. For 17 years she was a professional; Bass Angler. She and her husband traveled all over the US and parts of Canada. She was a five time World and National Champion. She was sponsored by Ranger Boats, Mercury Motors, and several bait and tackle companies. Once a year she took her old boat to Flippin, Arkansas and they would give her a new boat and motor. She got enough free tackle to open a tackle shop. Besides the prize money, she won a total of 7 fully equipped Bass Boats. She was on the cover of several magazines and was on the Today Show in the late 1980's. During her time spent at Santee Cooper she was able to "Pick and Grin" with Arthur Smith, and enjoyed the time spent with Roland Martin and Mary Ann along with several other friends in Florida. The family will receive friends from 5:30-6:30 PM Thursday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Her memorial service will follow the visitation at 6:30 PM Thursday in the Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. Roy Eddleman. The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff of Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home and Forsyth Medical Center for all the loving care given to her.
