James Cicero "Jim" Proffit, Jr.

James Cicero "Jim" Proffit, Jr., 67, passed away Saturday July 20, 2013 at his residence. Mr. Proffit was born December 18, 1945 in Watauga County to James Cicero Proffit, Sr. and Beulah Davis Proffit. Mr. Proffit was a member of Trinity Christian Center in Elkin. He served as Assistant Principal and then as Principal for Yadkinville Elementary School for 34 years. He was preceded in death by his father James Cicero Proffit, Sr., a brother John "Pete" Proffit, a son-in-law Charles Lynn Freeland. Surviving are his wife of 47 years Sandra "Sandy" Winebarger Proffit; a daughter Penelope "Penny" Proffit Freeland; two sons James Cicero "Jamie" Proffit, III, John Carlton Proffit; his mother Beulah Davis Proffit; grandchildren Tanner Blake Proffit and Ashten Kaylee Proffit; two sisters Charlotte Miller, Deloris (Ray) Miller; four brothers Steve (Carolyn) Proffit, David (Marcella) Proffit, Sam (Kim) Proffit and Ted (Lisa) Proffit; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday July 22, 2013 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday July 23, 2013 at Union Grove Baptist Church by Rev. John A. Cox. He will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family would like to say a very special thanks to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and also Dr. Albright and her staff at Wake Forest Health for the loving care given to Mr. Proffit.
