Gurney Edison Hollar, 90, passed away Sunday August 4, 2013, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Hollar was born February 8, 1923, in Yadkin County to the late Arthur Joel and Jecholiah Dinkins Hollar. Mr. Hollar was a retired livestock farmer; he also served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a gunner on a B24 serving in the Pacific. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Pearl Helms, Ella Simpson, and Betty Jean Hollar; four brothers, Sanford Hollar, David Hollar, Gorrell Hollar, and Clyde Hollar. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Savanna Brown Hollar; two sons, Dale E. Hollar of Raleigh and Keith Hollar (Partner Eggy Fisher) of Fort Lauderdale, FL; a sister, Carolyn Rea; three brothers, Homer Hollar, Henry Lee Hollar, and Cleve Hollar; and numerous members of his extended family. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
