Mrs. Dixie Marie McNary Moncus, 42 of Tabor Road, a devoted wife and loving mother, passed away peacefully Monday, August 12, 2013 surrounded by her loving family at the Gordon Hospice Home in Statesville after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 13, 1971 in Klamath Falls, Oregon to Donald and Cheryl Powers McNary. Mrs. Moncus worked with the Iredell County/Statesville School System for the past 15 years and most recently at Cloverleaf Elementary School. She attended Holly Springs Baptist Church. Dixie was an organ transplant recipient who was very compassionate about organ donations. She was very active with the Southeast Kidney Council where she served on the Board of Directors. Dixie was preceded in death by her grandfather, William H. Powers. Surviving are her beloved husband of 22 years, Scott Moncus, of the home; her son, Codey Ryan Moncus, her daughter, Tayler Marie Moncus, both of the home; a special young man she loved as her own son, Gray Hampton; her parents, Donald and Cheryl McNary of Lynchburg, VA.; Grandparents, Helen Powers, Lynchburg, Va, Calvin and Dixie McNary of Klamath Falls, Oregon; a sister, Hollie McNary (Matthew) Lineberry, Liberty, NC; nieces, Kendra Lineberry, Keleigh McDonald; nephew, Dalton McDonald; several aunts, uncles, and cousins living in Oregon, including a special cousin, Kelley Beagle, of Klamath Falls, OR; and her loving canine companion, AJ. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Hebron Baptist Church, 175 Hebron Road, Statesville, NC 28621. Her funeral service will be 3:00 PM Friday, August 16, 2013 at Hebron Baptist Church by Dr. Cliff Gwaltney. Burial will follow her service in the Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Houstonville Road, Harmony, NC 28634. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Donate Life America, 701 East Byrd Street, 16th Floor, Richmond, VA 23219.
