East Bend Mr. Charles "Lovell" Matthews, 79, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Matthews was born November 20, 1933 in Yadkin County to Robert and Enola Wall Matthews. He was a member of Richmond Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Matthews retired from RJ Reynolds after 33 years of service. He was a wonderful husband to his wife, a loving father to his children, and the greatest Pa-Pa to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Matthews and Bobby Neal Matthews; and two sisters, Sissy Hobson and Betty Vestal. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Rosa Miller Matthews; five children, Terecia (David) Talley, Vicky (Calvin) Dudley, Jimmy (Rebecca) Matthews, Tim (Debbie) Matthews, and David (Donna) Matthews; eleven grandchildren, Michelle (Mark) Wall, Matthew (Brandy) Talley, Anette Dudley, Jason (Sonya) Dudley, Casey Matthews, Ashleigh (Eric) Sloop, Devin Matthews, Andrew (Megan) Matthews, Justin (Mae) Matthews, Brandy Matthews and fiancée Brandon McGuire, and Grant Matthews; twelve great grandchildren, Ethan & Hannah Pendry, Chase Wall, Tylor & Christina Woods, Makenzie, Malorie, and Mason Dudley, Gabriel Matthews, Alex Burns, Avery Clay Matthews, and Jacey Matthews; his "right hand man", Brent "Wormy" Davis; two sisters, Katie (Gertie) Davis and Barbara "Polly" McKnight; two brothers, Junior Matthews and Archie (Barbara) Matthews; brother-in-law, U.G. "Gene" (Mary) Miller; sisters-in-law, Norene Matthews and Bertha Wright; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 2:00PM at Richmond Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Will Hamric, Rev. Brian Poindexter, and Rev. Jeff Farmer officiating. Mr. Matthews will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Kate B.
