Joe Elvin McCollum

Joe Elvin McCollum born October 31, 1924, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday September 29, 2013. His parents were William "Bill" and Alice Taylor McCollum. Joe was a beloved elder at Shacktown Church of Christ in Yadkinville, NC for many years. He was married to Virginia "Jenny" Barber McCollum for over 50 years. Joe raised tobacco and was retired from RJ Reynolds as a truck driver. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, brothers Oliver, Grady, Lloyd McCollum, and sisters Eunice McCollum Kiger, and Myrtle McCollum Childress. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky (Janie) McCollum, Dennis (Lydia) McCollum, and Andy (Robin) McCollum, six grandchildren Leah (Junior) McCollum Pack, Brian (Kelly) McCollum, Melanie McCollum Baity, Jennifer (Samuel) McCollum Luster, Rachel (Seth) McCollum Davis, Rebecca McCollum (Cody Crissman), and nine great grandchildren Charlie Pack, Joey Pack, Ethan McCollum, Lucas McCollum, Corbin McCollum, Eric Baity, Kaitlyn Luster, Kendall Luster, and baby girl Davis, our family's much anticipated next great-grandchild in addition to many beloved nieces and nephews and all the children who knew him as PaPa Joe. The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM Tuesday October 1, 2013 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday October 2, 2013 at the Gentry Chapel by Brother Lawrence Warden, Brother Steve McCollum and Brother Randy Warden. Burial will follow at Shacktown Church of Christ cemetery. Special thanks to Yadkin Nursing Center staff for their care during his declining health and to the doctors, nurses, and staff who cared for him at Forsyth Medical Center Palliative Care Unit.
