- Mr. Howard Grant Jester, 91, of Richmond Hill Church Road passed away Sunday, October 06, 2013 at Yadkin Nursing Center. He was born April 23, 1922 in Yadkin County to the late Floyd and Callie Matthews Jester. Mr. Jester was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Army during the Battle of Rhineland. Upon his honorable discharge he was awarded with several medals including the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart, for his service to his country. Mr. Jester enjoyed his work farming, and most recently enjoyed sharing out of his garden with his neighbors. He was a devoted life member of Richmond Hill Baptist Church, and was such a loving, humble father and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce Hinshaw Jester, a sister, Pauline Jester Hobson, and husband, Arno; brothers, Clint Jester, and wife, Anna Mae, Everette Jester, and wife, Lucy, Jack Jester, James Jester, Eddie Jester, and wife, Frances, brothers-in-law, Willie Kiger, Hobert Vanhoy. Surviving are his daughters, Becky Jester, and husband, Steve McMahan, Mocksville; Karen Jean Jester, of the home; grandson, Cassidy McMahan, and wife, Taylor, Pfafftown; brother, Arvil Jester and wife, Sylvia of Winston-Salem; sisters-in-law, Lorene Jester, Elsie Mae Jester; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at Richmond Hill Baptist Church by Rev. Will Hamric. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and NC National Guard. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Richmond Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, Richmond Hill Church Road, Boonville, NC 27011.
