June Elizabeth Wood Kimbrough Blunk June 1, 1934 - October 19, 2013 Yadkinville - June Elizabeth Wood Kimbrough Blunk (79) of Yadkinville, NC, peacefully and joyfully passed into the arms of her loving savior on Saturday, October 19, 2013 as she was surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 1, 1934, she is the daughter of the late Harvey A. Wood, Sr. and Vera Cain Wood of Buck Shoals in Hamptonville, NC. June lived a wonderful life in response to the love she received from God through her Savior Jesus Christ. This love extended out to her family and the many lives she touched as she volunteered within her community. Her many joys in volunteering and serving included gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, and as a long time member of Deep Creek Baptist Church. She served as a deaconess, sang in the choir and helped bring many church projects to successful fruition. June was also a tireless and faithful servant within the Triad community as well, serving as the Chair of the board for Yadkin Christian Ministries, volunteering for the Relay for Life in Winston Salem and in Yadkin County, singing in the Yadkin County Senior Chorus. She was a longtime member within the Order of the Eastern Star and White Shrine of Jerusalem #5 of Winston-Salem, holding various offices among which were Grand Ruth for the State of North Carolina and Grand Representative to the State of Mississippi. June's drive and zest for life showed up early in life as she was the only basketball player from West Yadkin High School to make the All-State team, the Journal and Sentinel Team, All County Player and Barium Springs All Conference. In 1969 she married William F. Kimbrough on September 6th, enjoying many years of faithful marriage, until William's death on January 17, 2000. She retired from Wachovia Bank in 1974 as a Vice-President in the Trust Department after 22 years of service, having started at 18 years of age, working in the Proof Department before moving into the Trust Department. On February 3, 2001, June married Jack Blunk and they enjoyed a wonderful marriage full of serving, volunteering and traveling together all over the world to places such as China, Russia, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, France, Hawaii and even served a Vietnam Orphanage by bringing children donated bicycles. June was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, William F. Kimbrough, her brothers, Harvey A. Wood, Jr., Charles W. Wood, and sister, Vera Lou W. Hix. She is survived by her husband Jack Blunk of Yadkinville, sisters Alice W. VanHoy of Union Grove, NC and Dorothy W. Wagoner of Hamptonville NC, her God-children/great nieces Shannon McBride and husband Ty of Charlotte, NC and V. Allison Stawski and husband Jim of Charlotte, NC. Also survived by her step children, John Blunk and wife Annie of Chapel Hill, NC, Tom Blunk and wife Bola of Flatwood Kentucky, Pam Buchanan and husband Scot of Germanton, NC, Pegi Pike and husband Bob of Marshall, NC, Patti Beechey and husband Jim of Winston Salem, NC, and Mike Sears and wife Lisa of Winston Salem, NC, Nieces and nephews, Patsy K. Johnston, Charles Stephen Wood, Lyndall W. Campbell, Ann W. Brown, Paula W. Thompson, Keith Wagoner, Jeffrey Wood, and Elizabeth Crouse. Her funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 25, 2013 at Deep Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Rick Page and the Rev. Richard Eskew. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. The family wants to extend special thanks and enormous gratitude to Dr. Marie Iruela and the rest of the staff at Salemtowne for their loving care through this difficult time.
