Helen Nance Church

Church Boonville - Helen Nance Church, 98, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Yadkin Nursing Care Center. She was born January 6, 1915 in Yadkin County to the late Earl Nance, Sr. and Madie Brown Nance. Helen left a legacy of love for her Lord and gospel music, but very little worldly goods. She taught shaped-note gospel music for the piano and organ. Helen also had singing classes at many churches in the tri-county areas for 80 years. She was the choir director and pianist at Shady Grove Baptist Church for over 60 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Winfield Scott Church; son, Bruce Earl Church; brother, Earl Nance, Jr. Surviving are her granddaughter, Sandy Johnson; great grandchildren, Kayla Johnson, Austin Johnson; great great granddaughter, Adalyn Jade Johnson; unofficial adopted son, Wilbur Evans; sister-in-law, Juanita Nance; niece and nephews. Her funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville by the Rev. Harold Salmons. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville, which is serving the Church family.
