Hamptonville Mr. John Herman Van Hoy, Jr., 84, passed away Monday, October 28, 2013 at his home. Mr. Van Hoy was born February 4, 1929 in Wilmington, Delaware to John and Hattie Lister Van Hoy. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and owned his own insurance brokerage firm in Delaware for 37 years before retiring. Mr. Van Hoy was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a greeter. He loved to travel and in his younger days, he loved swimming. Mr. Van Hoy was very outgoing and loved everyone he met. In addition to his parents, Mr. Van Hoy was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Van Hoy Spayd. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Patsy King Van Hoy; a son, Johnny Van Hoy; one nephew, Lee Spayd; and four special cousins, Edward Hastings, Richard Hastings, Faye (Paul) Burton, and Eloise Clements. His funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 11:00AM at Mt. View Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and NC National Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mt. View Baptist Church Growth Fund, 1232 Mountain View Church Rd, Hamptonville, NC 27020.
