Charles Odell Porter, Sr.

. Porter Hamptonville- Mr. Charles Odell Porter, Sr., of Mayberry Mill Road passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born February 14, 1948 in Wayne County, West Virginia. He was raised by his parents, Waldo Ray Adkins and Virginia Lee Zirkle Adkins. He was a loving, devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved each of his grandchildren, and they meant the world to him. Mr. Porter was owner and operator of Dell and Sons Painting Company. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving in the Vietnam War for two tours. Because of injuries while in active service, Mr. Porter was a Disabled American Veteran. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Desiree Ann Staley; a brother, Waldo Ray Adkins, Jr.; a sister-in-law, Sun Cha Porter; and his mother-in-law, Cleo S. Willard. Surviving are his wife of 18 years, Patricia W. Porter, of the home; his children, Charles Odell Porter, Jr., and wife, Liz of Seattle, Wa.; Kelly Gregory, of the home; Angela D. Gregory, Elkin; Nancy L. Gregory, Yadkinville; Stacy Staley, MN; 6 grandchildren, Patrick, Sean, Dalton, Christopher, Kara, Emily; brothers and sisters, Lester Morrison Edmonds, Andy Lee Porter, MI, Rodney Walter Porter, Tuscaloosa, AL, Stanley Porter, Huntington, WV, Mary Ann Hagan and husband, Gary of Huntington, WV, Michael Keith Porter, and wife, Anna of Yadkinville, NC, Gary Owen Porter , AL , Peanie Ray Adkins, Lisa Gay Akers, both of Lavalett, WV; special family members, Pete and Mary Gregory; Bobby and Roselene Wilmoth, Estelle Gregory all of Hamptonville; and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Porter will be 2:00 PM Thursday at the Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. Bob Evans. Full Military Honors will be given by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Woltz Hospice Home, 976 Zephyr road, Dobson, NC or to Mountain Valley Hospice, PO Box 1267, Yadkinville, NC 27055.
