George L. Steelman

Yadkinville Mr. George L. Steelman, 86, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2013 at his home. Mr. Steelman was born July 22, 1927 in Yadkin County to George and Bernice Hutchens Steelman. He was a veteran of the US Army and served during WWII in the Pacific Ocean Theatre. Mr. Steelman was a member of Huntsville Baptist Church and retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. George's favorite pastime was working with wood. In addition to his parents, Mr. Steelman was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Lakey. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Peggy Poindexter Steelman; three children, George (Debra) Steelman, Craig (Susie) Steelman, and Lisa (Wayne) Jester; two grandchildren, Victoria and Jake Steelman; one sister, Audrey Hutchins; one aunt, Josephine Brown; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 11:00AM at Gentry Funeral Service Chapel in Yadkinville with Rev. Dennis Shaw and Rev. Brian Chilton officiating. Burial will follow at Huntsville Baptist Church cemetery with military honors provided by NC National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Huntsville Baptist Church Building Fund, 4901 Courtney Huntsville Rd, Yadkinville, North Carolina 27055. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Hospice of Davie County for all the love, care, and support shown to Mr. Steelman during his illness.
