Jeff Daniel Gentry

Gentry Boonville- Mr. Jeff Daniel Gentry, 65, passed away after his long illness with cancer on Sunday February 16, 2014 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Gentry was born June 28, 1948 in Surry County to the late Clyde Gentry and Marie Gentry. Mr. Gentry was a member of Boonville United Methodist Church, where he was past president of the Boonville United Methodist Men for many years. He served in The US Navy during the Vietnam War; he was on board the USS Iwo Jima LPH2 when they picked up the Apollo 13 space capsule when it returned back to earth. Mr. Gentry worked for B/E Aerospace in Winston Salem for 41 years before retiring in December 2013. He enjoyed surf fishing, water skiing, camping, and worked with the Rec Club in Boonville with little league ball. Mr. Gentry is Survived by his wife Kathy Shannon Gentry; a son Shannon (Shelby) Gentry; three sisters Mildred Gentry Wilhelm, Margaret Gentry (Vess) Haynes, and Sue Gentry (Pete) Vestal; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday, February 21, 2014 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral will be conducted at 3:00 PM Saturday February 22, 2014 at Boonville United Methodist Church by Rev. Jenny Stewart, Rev. Marion Swann, and Rev. Michael Ditton. He will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at Charity United Methodist Church, 6440 Austin Traphill Rd, Elkin, NC 28621, with Full Military Honors by the NC Naval National Guard and the VFW Post 10346.
