Mary Tilghman Hurt

Boonville Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Tilghman Hurt, 95, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mrs. Hurt was born June 26, 1918 in Kentucky to Alfred and Helen Womack Tilghman. She was a member of Island Ford Baptist Church. Mary enjoyed traveling, gardening, and needlepoint. She was a very strong foundation for her entire family. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hurt was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ernest Lee Hurt; a son, Roger Lee Hurt; a grandson, Brian Smith; and two brothers, Harold and Willard Tilghman. She is survived by one sister, Darlene Harper; a daughter and best friend, Barbara Hitchcock; four grandchildren, Ricky Hurt, Ronnie Hurt, Roger Hurt, Jr., and Karen Hall; three great grandchildren, Shannon (Ricky) Wall, Kayla Hall and Miranda Hall; and two great-great grandchildren, Alex and Jacob Wall. A funeral service will be conducted Monday, March 10, 2014 at 2:00PM at Gentry Funeral Service Chapel in Yadkinville with Rev. Conard Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow at Island Ford Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103 or to Island Ford, 2124 NC Highway 67 Jonesville, NC 28642. The family wishes to thank Barbara Goldsmith from Forsyth Medical Center and the staff of Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for all the love, care, and support shown to Mrs. Hurt during her illness.
