Boonville Mr. Walter Junior Raines, 81, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014. Mr. Raines was born May 19, 1932 in Mingo County, WV to Walter and Sarah Parsley Raines. He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served during the Korean War. Mr. Raines served as vice president of Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC and was the youngest person to serve as State Supervisor in VA over the DECA program. He was awarded a scholarship to NC State to work towards a doctorate of education. He enjoyed fishing, but most of all, he enjoyed witnessing for the Lord. Mr. Raines was a member of Charity Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday school for many years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Raines was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Carol Raines and Joyce Bean; and a brother, Lowell Raines. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lois Ellen Hinkle Raines; four children, Denise Bujan, Jeff (Peggy) Raines, Walter (Tina) Raines III, and Bruce (Claudia) Raines; seven grandchildren, Melissa (Dustin) Ledbetter, Courtney Raines, Jeffrey Raines, Joy Tedder, Amber (Justin) Krause, Daniel Raines, and Allison Raines; four great grandchildren, Salem and Tucker Ledbetter and Dezmond and Haylie Krause; three sisters, Aileen Waterman, Lois Jean (Ron) Castle, and Lucille (Grayson) Williamson; one brother, Ronnie Raines; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 3:00PM at Charity Baptist Church with Rev. Eddy Driver officiating. Mr. Raines will lie in state from 2:30 to 3:00PM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Charity Baptist Church, 1500 Charity Church Rd, Boonville, NC 27011.
