Yadkinville Mr. Samuel Gurney Harris, Sr., 94, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Harris was born December 30, 1919 in Yadkin County to Miles and Nancy Wooten Harris. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served in the Philippines during World War II. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth Nance Harris; two children, Margaret Childress and Samuel G. Harris, Jr.; six sisters, Lucy, Ruth, Martha Ellen, Ethel, Edna, and Pauline; and four brothers, Clyde, Frank, Luther, and Marson. He is survived by two daughters, Ann Anderson and Wanda Dupree; a special nephew, Ralph (Cathy) Harris; eight grandchildren, Wayne Harris, Linda Anderson, JE Anderson, Nancy Hickman, Crystal Smith, and Jibri, Kayin, and Nya Dupree; eight great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one sister, Josephine Key; his son's fiancée, Judy Wishon; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at 2:00PM at Gentry Funeral Service Chapel in Yadkinville with Rev. Grady Trivette officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Baptist Church cemetery with full military honors provided by the NC National Guard Honor Guard and Yadkin VFW post 10346. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 337 Tom Lauren Rd Yadkinville, NC 27055. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Forsyth Medical Center and to Doctor's John and Joanie Williams for all the love, care, and support shown to Mr. Harris.
