Jonesville Mr. Carl Taft Vanhoy, 105, passed away Monday, May 12, 2014. Carl was born June 25, 1908 in Wilkes County to the late William and Sarah Smith Vanhoy. At an early age, his family moved to Yadkin County where he resided until his death. He was a living Yadkin County history book as he literally experienced the end of the horse and buggy era and dawn of the space age and beyond. Throughout his life, Carl was a humble man, maintaining a sweet and simple demeanor that won the hearts and trust of many. On November 15, 1930, Carl married the love of his life, Sadie Bryant Vanhoy who preceded him in death on March 6, 1999. Also preceding him in death were brothers, Marvin, John, and Dick; sisters, Leona, Pearl, Ada, Annie, and Vallie; and special friends which he considered family, Clay and Reba Mastin. Carl is survived by his daughter, June Vanhoy Whittington; the Mastin's children, Tom (Kathy), Grant (Pam), Robert (Lisa), and Lorrie (Daniel) Peters and their families; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews; a very special great-great nephew, John Wiles; sisters-in-law, Georgie Bryant, Shirley Bryant, and Betty Chappell; and his daughters god son, Antonio McClelland. Also surviving are many special friends, Dennis (Ann) Cheek, and "Big Boy", his special buddy, Kyle Weatherman, USNavy serving aboard the USS Taylor. A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 3:00PM at Swan Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Swan Creek Baptist Church Transportation Fund, 2501 Swan Creek Rd, Jonesville, NC 28642. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Carol Collins who helped care for Carl for the last six years. He loved Carol as she did him.
