Kenneth Wayne Hobson

December 25, 1950 — May 13, 2014

East Bend Kenneth "Ken" Wayne Hobson made his peaceful journey into the arms of God with his loving wife by his side on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. Ken was born in Forsyth County to the late Tyre and Edith Davis Hobson. Ken was born on December 25, 1950 and loved sharing that being born on Christmas Day was special to him in many ways. He graduated from Forbush High School in 1969 and he served in the US Army. He retired from RJ Reynolds after 37 ½ years. After completing his honey-do list, he decided he needed more excitement and drove a school bus. Ken loved driving the bus and all of the kids. They often told him he was the best bus driver they had ever had. Ken was a member of New Home UMC in East Bend. He loved his church and served on many committees. He developed a wonderful friendship with Rev. Gary Mahathey and the members there. Ken was one of many that met and formed the Yadkin Valley Cruisers. He loved old cars and had several, but most of all, he loved smoking the tires (burn outs). Ken was very special to his wife Bennie and they had a special bond and much love for each other. They enjoyed many trips together and enjoyed camping and traveling in their motor coach. They have two very special friends that traveled with them, Edward and Sherry Allen. Their K-9 companions, Maggie and Mitzi also traveled with him and Ken referred to them as his "babies". Ken is survived by his loving wife of 17 ½ years, Bennie Taylor Hobson; a son, Jason (Bree) Hobson, whom he was very proud of; a step son, Scott (Katrina) Taylor; two grandchildren, Joseph and Ashlea Taylor; two siblings, Thomas Hobson and Patricia Matthews; and a very special cousin, June Tyson. Ken's Celebration of Life service will be conducted Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 2:00PM at New Home UMC with Rev. Gary Mahathey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by NC National Guard Honor Guard and Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Home UMC Building Fund, 3348 Smithtown Road East Bend, NC 27018. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Robert Holmes and his staff at Gastroenterology Assoc. of the Piedmont and to Hospice and Palliative Care of Winston Salem for all the love, care, and support shown to Ken during his illness.
