Warren G. Blackburn

Elkin Mr. Warren G. Blackburn, 88, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Yadkin Nursing Center. Mr. Blackburn was born March 4, 1926 in Wilkes County to Lee and Beulah Wood Blackburn. He was a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church and was owner and operator of Blackburn Brother's Lawn Mower and Chainsaw Repair Shop. Mr. Blackburn enjoyed small game hunting, fishing, and spending time with family, especially his daughter and grandsons. In addition to his parents, Mr. Blackburn was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, Thalmage Blackburn, Walter "Peanut" Blackburn, Raymond (Irene) Blackburn, Ersie (Orville) Norman, Bobby (Alma "Dink") Blackburn, Rita Bailey, and Max Blackburn; one brother-in-law, James "Jim" Harper; several nephews and a great niece. He is survived by his daughter, Ginger (Roger) Holt; three grandsons, Ethan Laine Collins, Warren Trace Collins, Trevor James Collins; three step grandchildren, Katie (Andrew) Bryan, Will (Sarah) Holt, and Audra Holt; two sisters, Alma (Raymond) Norman and Velda Harper; two sisters-in-law, Madelene Blackburn and Pam Blackburn; a brother-in-law, Richard "Dick" Bailey; best friend and former wife and mother of his daughter, Lois Blackburn; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted Monday, June 16, 2014 at 11:30AM at Cool Springs Baptist Church with Rev. David Key officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Gentry Funeral Service in Jonesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Yadkin Nursing Center, PO Box 879 Yadkinville, NC 27055 or to Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Davie County 101 Hospice Lane Winston Salem, NC 27103. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Yadkin Nursing Center and the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Davie County and Rev. David Key for all the love, care and support shown to Mr. Blackburn and his family during this difficult journey.
