Miles Ray Whitaker

Whitaker Yadkinville - Miles Ray Whitaker "Poppie", 82, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 at his home. He was born January 26, 1932 in Yadkin County to the late John Haskel Whitaker and Clara Belle Underwood Whitaker. Ray loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed the outdoors and spending time in his garden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Whitaker. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Eva Mae Brown Whitaker; children, Michael (Joyce) Whitaker, Barry (Angie) Whitaker; grandchildren, Jeremy (Jill) Whitaker, Erin (fiancé' - Larry White) Whitaker, Karie Whitaker, Emily Whitaker; great grandchildren, Jayce Whitaker, Julie Whitaker; sister, Patty (Verne) Harrison; sister-in-law, Shirley Whitaker, Sue (Delmer) Pettit, Odessa Brown; special aunt, Mae Haire; several nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Center United Methodist Church by the Rev. Bonnie Harris and the Rev. Greg Anderson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall at Center United Methodist Church.
