Cheek Hamptonville - "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7, Reola Combs Cheek, 90, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2014 at her home. She was born December 8, 1923 in Wilkes County to the late Flossie Henderson Combs and Alfonso Combs. Reola was a faithful member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where she served as President of WMU for 35 years. She worked as a volunteer in the reading lab at West Yadkin School. She was a life-long member of the West Yadkin Home Extension Club. Reola served 8 years as assistant to her husband, Granville, during his tenure as the VA Service Officer for Yadkin County. Upon Granville's death, she served two years as VA Service Officer for Yadkin County. She retired as packing supervisor from Unifi. Reola was most famous for baking cakes, especially her five-flavor pound cake for her friends and family. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Granville H. Cheek; sister, Treva (Vander) Gregory; brothers, General Clay Combs, Guy Combs, Wayne (Mary Jane) Combs, Gray (Connie) Combs; brothers-in-law, Clyde Gray, Wayne Brown, James Fulp; and her beloved "BooBoo" Freeman. Surviving are her daughter, Julia Cheek Freeman; granddaughter, Hannah Freeman (Jacob) Cason; sisters, Lois Gray, Argyle Brown, Sina Fulp; brother, Brodie "Bud" (Mary) Combs; sisters-in-law, Jackie Combs, Alice Combs; special friends, Bea Dobbins, Lillie Belle Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Oak Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Larry Leffler, the Rev. Michael Fulp, Jr, and the Rev. Travis Chipman. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. She will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2014 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. The family would like to extend special thanks to Judy Simpson, Donna Stout, Dr. Joanie Williams, Paula Cook, Dr. Robert Peterson, and Dr. C.S. Whitman for all the love and care shown to Reola.
