Charles Franklin Casstevens

Jonesville- Mr. Charles Franklin Casstevens, Sr., 92, went to his eternal reward on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at the Jesse Helms Rehabilitation Center in Monroe, NC. He was born October 12, 1921 in Boonville to the late Walter and Theo Norman Casstevens. He was a 47 years employee of Chatham Manufacturing in Elkin. He served in the US Army during World War II and earned many medals including the Purple Heart. He was a longtime member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church, serving the church family as a Sunday School Director, Deacon, and Deacon Emeritus. He was preceded in death by his parents, the love of his life his wife, Nonnie Burcham Casstevens, and 5 brothers, Tom, J. Lee, R.V., Glenn, and Homer Casstevens. Surviving are his son, Frank (Holly) Casstevens of Monroe; and a grandson, Trevor Casstevens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville, 5108 US Hwy 601 North. His funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Mineral Springs Baptist Church by Rev. Wesley Smith, Dr. Ed Yarbrough, and Rev. Douglas Rumley. He will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery with full military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and the N.C. National Guard. The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Wynona Rorie of Wingate, NC and the staff of Jesse Helms Rehabilitation Center of Monroe for the wonderful care provided to Mr. Casstevens. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mineral Springs Baptist Church, 211 Cedarbrook Road, Jonesville, NC 28642. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the family.
