Marie Gentry Whitaker

Whitaker Yadkinville - Marie Gentry Whitaker, 95, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 24, 2014. She was born February 20, 1919 in Yadkin County to the late Rufus and Minnie Royal Gentry. Marie was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who spent her life doing for others. She was a lifetime member of Center United Methodist Church. Marie retired from Hoots Memorial Hospital after 30 years of service. She is now reunited with her husband Paul, who passed away 45 years ago. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by an infant daughter. Surviving are her daughter, Hilda (Jerry) Carlton; granddaughters, Ginger Cantrell and Tonia (Jody) Shore; great grandchildren, Kylie Marie Cantrell, Jaken Dylan Cantrell, and Zoe McKenzie Shore. Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Center United Methodist Church by the Rev. Lisa Wishon and Dr. Bonnie Harris. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. She will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2014 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.
