Whitman Pfafftown- Mr. Billy Harold Whitman, 87, of Vienna-Dozier Road passed away peacefully July 27, 2014 at Clemmons Village I. He was born February 2, 1927 in Forsyth county to the late Elmer Luther and Ida Lee Hill Whitman. Mr. Whitman was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with 36 years of service, enjoyed selling used cars, and was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the World War II serving with the US Army in Germany. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Sheets Whitman; brothers, Ralph, Robert, and Grant Whitman; sisters, Ester and Violet Whitman, and Frances Shouse. Surviving are his devoted daughter and son-in-law, Dottie Whitman and Jerry Ratledge; grandchildren, Paul Harold (Wendy) Ratledge, Kristen Ratledge (Josh) Williams, Kathryn Ratledge (Aaron) Brown; great-grandchildren, Wesley Ratledge, Jacob, Caleb and Laura Williams, Kylee brown; 4 nephews and 2 nieces. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 5:00 PM Wednesday at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. His funeral service will follow the visitation on Wednesday at 5:00 PM in the church with Rev. Jeff Hamric and Pastor Gerogianne S. Hartline both officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and the NC National Guard.
