Sloan Hamptonville- Mr. Marshall Van Sloan, 77, of Sloans Mill Road passed away Sunday July 27, 2014. He was born February 27, 1937 in Yadkin County to the late Vander Couch and Sallie Wooten Sloan. Marshall was a very gentle loving person, served in the US Army, retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. He was a faithful member of Flat Rock Baptist Church as long as his health permitted, was a family man loving his wife, children, grandchildren, and family. Surviving are his wife, Cornelia Macy Sloan of 56 years, children, Marsha Jean Sloan, Connie Elizabeth Smith; grandchildren, Emily Ball Fletcher and Jessie Fletcher, Devin Elizabeth Smith and Heather Nicole Smith, Marshall Bailey Sloan and Zoey Cleary; brother, Carroll Sloan; sisters, Charlotte (Bobby) Steelman, Frankie (J.W.) Cheek, Judy (Pete) Knight and the Acio Family, Florida; In-laws, Lucille Webb, Billy Macy, Rose Stanley, Cynthia Anderson, Claude Macy and Alda Tesar. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:30 PM Tuesday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral Service will follow the visitation at 3:00 PM Tuesday in the Gentry Family Chapel with Dr. Claudia Harrellson, officiating. Burial will follow in the Flat Rock Baptist Church Cemetery. After the graveside service on Tuesday, friends and family will meet at the Yadkin VFW Post 10346 for a time of fellowship. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to The War Memorial Foundation, 600 North Regional Road, Greensboro, NC 27409 with a memo for the Cpl. Jessie Fletcher Home Fund.
