Hawks Yadkinville- Mr. Melvin Junior Hawks of Courtney Church Road went home to be with his Savior and Lord 6:25 PM, Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at his home. He had been critically ill for 3 weeks. Mr. Hawks was born December 20, 1930 in Surry County to the late George Washington and Lilly Akers Hawks. He was retired from several years of service with the Yadkin County School System. Mr. Hawks was a great inspiration to his family, friends, co-workers, and church family. Mr. Hawks was an ordained Deacon and faithful member of Turners Creek Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his step-mother, Nettie Cook Hawks, Brothers, Howard, Marvin, and Chester Hawks; and a sister, Myrtle Poindexter. Surviving are his beloved wife of 62 years, Mary Childress Hawks; 6 children, Ann (Bobby) Jones, Jack (Roxanne) Hawks, Katie (Ronald) Moore, Joyce (Craig) Marler, Wayne (Annette) Hawks, Keith (Lisa) Hawks; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Marie Turner, Margie Hardy. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday at Turners Creek Baptist Church by Rev. Scott Welch, Dr. Alan Barker, and Rev. James Moore. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to express their gratitude to Mountain Valley Hospice and the Physicians and Staff of Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center for all the loving care given to Mr. Hawks.
