John D. Groce

John D. Groce, 86, passed away Wednesday September 3, 2014 at Yadkin Nursing Center. He was born March 27, 1928 in Yadkin County to the late Mode and Floy Vestal Groce. Mr. Groce was a Tobacco Farmer and also served in The US Army during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Randy Dale Groce; four sisters Frances Blevins, Velina Wagoner, Bertie King, Estelle Macemore; four brothers Delmar Groce, Grady Groce, Burly Groce, and an infant brother. Surviving are his wife of 65 years Columbia Gilliam Groce; son Rex (Mary) Groce; Grandchildren Erin (Michael) Cockerham, Jordan (Silke) Groce, and Melanie Groce; three sisters Ollie Mae Collins, Jerry Vestal, and Mary Brown; daughter in law Lois Ann Vestal Groce. The family will receive friends from 1-3 PM Saturday September 6, 2014 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral will be conducted at 3:00 PM at Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. Randy Johnson. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens with Full Military Honors by the NC National Guard and the VFW Post 10346. The family would like to thank the staff of Yadkin Nursing center for the loving care given to Mr. Groce. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Groce family.
