Jonesville Mr. Jackie Lee Barber, 76, passed away Friday, September 5, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Barber was born August 29, 1938 in Yadkin County to James (Jim) and Vergie Groce Barber. He was a 1957 graduate of Jonesville High School. After graduation, he joined the US Air Force and proudly served his country for four years. After returning from service, Mr. Barber joined his father and brother in ownership of Mid Way Tire and Marina in Jonesville, where he worked many years as a great boat mechanic. Mr. Barber gave his heart to the Lord at a young age and joined Swaims Baptist Church. He served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, superintendent, sang in the choir, and worked with the youth group. He and his wife Jo Ann took great pride in taking the youth to the lake and teaching them to water ski. He was a great role model to many children. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barber was preceded in death by a brother, Paul (Lorene) Barber; and a sister-in-law, Margie (Lem) Macemore. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years and "precious gift from God", Jo Ann Chappell Barber; two sisters-in-law, Eloise (Ted) Brinegar and Linda (Larry) Luffman; and several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. A funeral service will be conducted Monday, September 8, 2014 at 2:00PM at Gentry Family Chapel in Jonesville with Rev. Jerry Shelton and Billy Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Swaims Baptist Church cemetery with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and NC National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Gentry Funeral Service in Jonesville. Mr. Barber had several health issues over the past several years and was blessed to receive a kidney transplant in July 2008. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the doctors and nurses at WFBMC and the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for all the love, care, and support shown to Mr. Barber during his illness.
