Ralph Monroe Ray

Boonville Mr. Ralph Monroe Ray, 85, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Ray was born April 3, 1929 in Yadkin County to the late Vance and Hazel Oakes Ray. He served in the US Army with the 28th Infantry Division during the Korean War where he was stationed in Germany. After many years of hard work, he retired from his poultry farm. Mr. Ray was a member of First Baptist Church in Yadkinville for more than 50 years where he served as a deacon and on numerous committees. He was a founding and lifetime member of the Yadkin County Rescue Squad, a lifetime member and past commander of Yadkin VFW Post 10346, a member of the American Legion, and a member of the Yadkinville Jaycees. Mr. Ray was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather that loved his family, church, neighbors and friends. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. Mr. Ray will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Maxine Myers Ray; three daughters, Susan (Danny) Casstevens, Sherri (Rocky) Wood, and Gina (Jamie) Chappell; four grandchildren, Brent (Debbie Lane) Casstevens, Amy (Chris Stone) Mahan, Doug (Jill) Wood, and John Wood; six great grandchildren, Wesley & Jarred Mahan, Devin, Bryson, Tyler & Troy Wood; sister-in-law, Jonnie Groce; two brothers-in-law, D.C. Swaim and Richard Church; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 11:00AM at First Baptist Church in Yadkinville with Rev. Ken Boaz and Rev. Chris Vogts officiating. Burial will follow at Yadkin Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. Mr. Ray will lie in state from 10:30 to 11:00 at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Yadkin VFW Post 10346 14509 Elkin Hwy 268 Ronda NC 28670, First Baptist Church Yadkinville 304 S State St, Yadkinville, NC 27055, Woltz Hospice Home 945 Zephyr Rd, Dobson, NC 27017, or Yadkin County Rescue Squad 1116 W Main St, Yadkinville, NC 27055. The family wishes to thank all of Mr. Ray's caregivers for all the love, care, and support shown to him.
