John "Wayne" Spillman

Hamptonville Mr. John "Wayne" Spillman, 74, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Spillman was born May 10, 1940 in Yadkin County to the late John Henry and Mary Pinnix Spillman. He was a veteran of the US Army and was a member of Union Baptist Church. Mr. Spillman served on the Board of Directors at Buck Shoals Fire Department for several years. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and watching his grandson play ball. Mr. Spillman is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Doris Gregory Spillman; two children, Lynn (Tim) Underwood and John (Sherri) Spillman; three grandchildren, Angel Sutphin, Jessica Underwood, and Joshua Spillman; one great grandchild, River Sutphin; and one brother, James "Blackie" Spillman. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 3:00PM at Union Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Pardue and Rev. Russ Nixon officiating. He will lie in state from 2:30 to 3:00PM prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and NC National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Union Baptist Church, 919 Union Baptist Church Rd Hamptonville, NC 27020. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Forsyth Medical Center ICU, ICCU, and 8th floor staff.
